ATTLEBORO – The Hampton Road Whalers closed out their preliminary round of play at the 2023 Pre-Draft Showcase in fine fashion on Saturday evening at the New England Sports Village. They defeated the Bridgewater Bandits 6-2 in Jr. A division play.
In search of their first win, the Whalers struck out hot against the Bandits, amassing a 3-1 lead at the intermission. Jacob Jamani, Christian Day and Evan Miles did the scoring for Hampton, while Liam Cummings put away the Bandits goal in the opening frame.
The second played out as did the first, Hampton once again posting a 3-1 period to round out the 6-2 final. Evans scored the second of his game-high two goals and was joined in the scorer’s column by teammates Bryson Ehn and Ryder Hinich. Nate Souza joined Cummings as the other Bridgewater goal scorer.
Merreck Lincoln (3A) had three helpers to lead the contest in scoring with three points.
Goaltender Gavin Norton secured the win in the Hampton net.
