Day One ends as Capitals down AHR

Providence rallies in the second for big win.

WAPOLE – The first day of play in the 2014 New England Pro-Am International Pre-Draft Showcase came to a close as the Providence Capitals opened their tournament with a resounding 8-1 win over Amateur Hockey Report Friday night at Rodman Arena.

Despite the lopsided score, but for a brief moment Amateur Hockey Report held the advantage. After a predominantly scoreless first half, Levi Hulston put away the game’s first goal at 20:22 to give AHR a 1-0 lead.

That lead, however, lasted all of 3:27 as Bryan Lemos scored the first of his three goals in the contest at 23:49 to even the score at 1-1, where it stayed through the remainder of the half.

As the teams returned to the ice for the second half, the Capitals wasted no time in starting the offensive barrage. Ryan Cloonan started the assault with back-to-back goals at the 2:00 and 3:18 marks. Cam Carbone also added a pair as Lemos completed his hat trick and Kimball Union product Dennis Cesana also scored to account for remainder of the eight goals in the half.

Each team continues play with a pair of games on Saturday. Amateur Hockey Report will play both of their games at the Foxboro Sports Center, facing the Boston Junior Bruins at 1:40 p.m. and the New England Thrasher Black at 8:20 p.m. The Capitals take on the Thrashers in Foxboro at 1:50 p.m. and then move over to the Canton Sportsplex to face the Junior Bruins at 6:40 p.m.
